Activity 1: Integrating Activities
The database programme will, mainly, be formed as a dynamic website. In the website, there will be a main page including all information about the project and the discussion and the information platform. The discussion platform will coordinate the information platform. The participants will choose one of the topics on the page and send their opinions, articles etc. to the information platform. A search engine will enrich this information platform. The second group of studies will be arranged in relationship to expertise of partner institutions and transferred the resulting data to the database. Before gathering this data, the categorisation of target deltas will be completed and the reliability of data will be checked. The centre of the database system will be in Tekirdağ. In congresses and workshops, all results and outputs will be discussed and analyzed in detail and the results will be reported, for planning. An environmental education program will be at two levels: (1) public awareness of the problems of the environment, especially the linkages between watershed activities and consequences on the downstream water body; (2) formal education of young people in order for them to understand the central role of the natural environment and their future welfare. A website will be established for communication network, where a questionnaire will be available to provide feed-back from for end-users, and assistance will be provided by experts on each subject to support model application, decision-making and the utilization of study results. All information, data and reports prepared will be transferred to the database centre in Tekirdağ, using this network.
Activity 2: Joint Research Activities
Coastal deltas are shallow aquatic ecosystems, which develop at the interface between coastal terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The rates of structural and functional changes of both hydrogeomorphological units and biological communities of the estuaries are thus highly dependent on the very active exchanges on auxiliary energy and mass, with the surrounding ecosystems, in particular. However, they develop for themselves particular mechanisms for structural and functional regulations, which in turn lead to specific productive and carrying capacities. This group of activities aim at estimation of the carrying capacity which is extremely important for sustainable land-use without adversely affecting future yields and the integrity of ecosystems of these semi-enclosed coastal areas.
Activity 3: Visibility of the Action
Spreading excellence activities will be one of the most important outputs of the joint action. Another activity for disseminating outputs will be the consultation and training of interested users on database, modelling, impact assessment and decision-making. Training part of this component will include the Ecosystem Education Program (EEP) which will aim local civil societies, including secondary and high school students, NGOs, relevant local authority officials, farmers active in local agriculture sector, company owners and managers from the local industrial sector, etc., in Tekirdağ, Kırklareli and Edirne provinces.
Activity 4: Management Activities
Coordination of multidisciplinary research team will be the aim of this group of activities. Purposes will be integration of all findings, using a multifunctional approach, general co-ordination of all work - packages, units and programme applications, regular discussion on ongoing studies, outputs and any difficulties encountered during implementation, decisions on the details of implementing the project, preparation of necessary reports, attending monitoring visits.
